How to support EV owners in your area

Buying an EV charger is far from the only way — there’s plenty you can do without spending a cent

While there are many specialist charger finding apps did you know you can add your charger to Google Maps?

Now that I am helping out at the Drive Electric NL Resource Centre I get to hear more from non-EV owners and I was delighted to hear from a hotel owner who was adding a charger in a remote location 200km from the nearest fast charger. He wanted to know whether there was a standard sign he should use to indicate to drivers he had a charger to offer.

I did find that there were very few highway signs indicating EV charging availability on my journeys, but non-EV owners may not realize that we depend almost entirely on third party apps to tell us where chargers are on our journeys. So I made this guide for him, and for anyone who wants to draw EV owners to their area and help them when they arrive. It is mainly aimed at shops, hotels/B&Bs and restaurants but anyone might find it useful. The main part shows the most important places to “advertise” the EV charging you offer (this is always free of charge to do) but includes other advice too.

Please read it and share it — especially to friends with local businesses — comments and suggestions are always welcome — below or by email to evirlinfo@gmail.com.
