Using EV chargers to attract customers

Verne McIntyre was early in installing a charger to serve visitors to his holiday cottages in Baddeck, NS. It encouraged me to stay the night there when I did my first Newfoundland to Ontario round trip in 2022.

I’ve been seeing a steady increase in companies and organizations announcing they are installing EV chargers to attract customers (and getting some good PR from doing so). It’s particularly welcome where I live in Atlantic Canada because the highway fast charger network has not kept pace with demand. Not only can this help draw tourists and other customers, the same infrastructure can help your business to make the switch to a cheaper and more sustainable vehicle fleet.

Frankly, however, I will be happy when (like making long road trips in one’s EV) this kind of thing is so commonplace it is no longer newsworthy. If you are considering doing this yourself, here’s a piece I wrote last year which includes a guide to some easy and inexpensive ways businesses (or indeed anyone) can make their area more attractive to EV owners.
